Mate Choice In Goldfinches

Vermilion Pride Day
May 17 - 9 am - City Of Vermilion Pride Day begins at 9 am on Saturday at Victory Park Gazebo. The day begins with donuts and drinks. Please call the Service Director at (440) 967-5056 to volunteer. Vermilion In Bloom will hang baskets at Victory Park. Pride Day is part of the Great American Cleanup created by Keep America Beautiful, Inc. National nonprofit Keep America Beautiful will mobilize millions of volunteers nationwide to clean, beautify and improve their communities during the Great American Cleanup, the nation's largest community improvement program held annually from March 1 through May 31. Keep America Beautiful has three areas of focus: litter prevention, beautification and community improvement, and waste reduction.

Laser District 18 Championships
May 24 - 25 - A premier sailing event held at Vermilion Boat Club. John Shockey, a Vermilion youth sail camp graduate, now sailing for Old Dominion University (John is ranked 36th in US) has invited VBC to host the Laser District 18 Championships. The Laser is a one person one design boat that is the world most poplular one design class. As well it is an Olympic Class. Memorial Day
May 26 - Parade begins downtown at 11 am followed by a Ceremony at the Gazebo in Victory Park. Speakers, guests, ceremonies. The Vermilion Veteran's Council will begin Memorial Day events with flags placed at Maple Grove and Rugby cemeteries on Friday at 6 pm. On Sunday, Color Guards will hold services at Volunteer Bay at 2 pm. Services will follow at 3 pm at the Inn at Chappel Creek. Veterans will form at Exchange Park at 8 am to raise and lower the flag to half-staff and place the wreath. At 9 am the flag at Maple Grove will be raised and lowered to half-staff and the wreath placed. Veterans will form at Ferry Street at 10 am for the parade. Memorial Day Services will begin at at Victory Park at 11 am.

VHS Legendary Prom
Mid May - Vermilion's legendary prom tradition continues. Each year the school is transformed into another far-off place or fantasy land. Thousands turn out to watch students arrive is grand style in Hummer stretch limos, antique cars, tractors, hot air balloons, carriage and more. The school opens at 4 pm for public viewing. Students begin to arrive at 7 pm. Visitors are asked to remain behind the ropes and to park at the stadium. Dinner will be served when everyone from a reserved table has arrived. Web Site >>

Worship By The Water
May - August - Worship by the Water begins Sunday, May 25th at Sherod Park and continues through August 31st. A contemporary Summer Worship service, held on the shores of Lake Erie. Sherod is located at the corner of Coen & West Lake Roads (Rt. 6) one mile west of Vermilion. Worship takes place from 9:00 am to 9:45 am. Family friendly, all ages welcome, open to all. Relay For Life
May 31 - Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate cancer survivorship and raise money for research and programs. The Annual Vermilion Relay For Life is held at Sailorway Stadium, 1250 Sanford Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. Throughout the night team members take turns walking or running around the track. The public is welcome to enjoy the event Friday night. It is a great family outing with special activities for children, food for sale and a very moving luminary ceremony at sundown.

City Pool Opens
Late May - The Vermilion City pool will open with free admission for a limited time. Enjoy shuffleboard, basketball, badminton, foursquare, swimming and diving competitions and more. An adult swim club is offered and teen nights will feature music and food. Pool hours are noon to 8 pm seven days per week. Membership is $125 or $250 per family. Non-member gate fees are $5 for children and $6 for adults over age 18. Five and 10 day passes are available at a discounted rate.

Annual Lecture Series
Late March - Early May - Every spring and fall, The Great Lakes Historical Society presents its Annual Lecture Series. Each series features six lectures on various aspects of the Great Lakes and their history. Lectures are always free and open to the public!
