Vermilion Local Schools Superintendent To Retire
Vermilion Local Schools Superintendent Bruce Keller has announced he will retire at the end of this year. The Vermilion School Board has hired a search firm to find a new superintendent. They hope to have a replacement by August 1 when contracts begin for administrators.
Keller stated he could remain as superintendent until the end of the year or could take on the position of assistant superintendent to assist the new superintendent. He may also consider working in school security and crisis planning or in another job as superintendent. However, he is looking to reduce his workload after averaging 75 to 80 hours a week as Superintendent.
Keller, 57, began his career with the Vermilion schools in 1992 as assistant superintendent. He became the superintendent in 2000 when the district was in a fiscal emergency. He earns $105,000 a year.
Keller said dealing with finances and improving the curriculum were his biggest challenges. Under his leadership the district earned an effective rating, having improved its status with the state from continuous improvement.
