MATE CHOICE IN GOLDFINCHES
7-8pm VRR-CB. Join us for our first installment of the “Friday Evenings in May” series! Oberlin College professor of Biology Keith Tarvin will be discussing how bill color in goldfinches affects mate choice. Mr. Tarvin will be discussing the work he has been doing for the Lorain County Metro Parks that investigates the dynamics of bill color.

10-11:30am VRR-CB. Ohio Division of Wildlife will be presenting a bird program on local species, both song birds and raptors! Join us for an indoor presentation and then a short hike to identify the species in our park.

12noon-4pm VRR-CB. Sherree Ferrato will be teaching us how to make dichroic glass pendants for Mother’s Day. Use a pre-cut heart or create your own shape! PR by 4/30 and pay $30/2 pendants, $10 for wire wrapping at the door.

1-2pm VRR-CB. Leona Wittmer, an expert in ceramics, will be demonstrating her art. We will be creating and painting a Mother’s Day music box. All materials are included, suitable craft for kids too! PR by 5/5 and pay $ at the door.

8-9:30pm VRR. Bring your family to enjoy a movie under the stars on our big screen! We will be showing a film of two best animal friends! When a puppy meets a furry red friend in the woods they become instant pals, which leads to many adventures. Meet at Shelter #1. In the event of inclimate weather, the film will be shown in the Carriage Barn.

7-8pm VRR-CB. “Friday evenings in May” presents an evening of space exploration! Renee Elias, Director of the NASA Central Operation of Resources for Educators, will be speaking to us about what it is like to live aboard a space craft, the mysteries of the solar system, and new developments with the space program. Great for all ages!

10-11am ABC-VC. Preschoolers ages 3-5 and an adult companion will learn about butterflies through stories, crafts, and activities.

1-4pm VRR. Experienced historians will be giving informal tours of the Benjamin Bacon House. Tour guides will discuss the family history, life in the late 1800’s and have you take a guess at the past uses of our artifacts! Scavenger hunts also available. Meet at the Benjamin Bacon House.

4-5pm VRR-CB. A kid’s program discussing all aspects of deer, we will learn about their habitat, behavior, and why they can be such a nuisance. We will be doing crafts and outdoor games so come ready play!

7-8pm VRR-CB. “Friday evenings in May” culminates with a theater extravaganza! Connie Williams and Karen Rodachy present their original skit where the audience will solve a crime and learn about herbs simultaneously! Join us for complimentary thyme cookies, bunches of dried lavender, and recipes following the performance. PR by 5/23 and pay $5 at the door.

FLY CASTING AND TYING
9-12noon VRR-CB. Chuck Stattler, experienced fly fisherman, will be teaching the basics of casting, tying, proper equipment, and use of terminology. We will be doing hands-on activities so you will leave ready to fish for bluegill, trout, and bass! All supplies included. PR by 5/26 and pay $8 at the door.
