Large Crowd Watches
Prom Red Carpet Arrivals
Hundreds turned out for Vermilion's legendary prom tradition on Saturday, May 10, at Vermilion High School. Each year the school is transformed into another far-off place or fantasy land. The crowds watched students arrive is grand style in stretch limos, antique cars, bicycles, tractors, scooters, carriages and and even a Flintstone's car.
This year's theme was "Razz Club Gala." It was an eclectic mix of the 1920's, Old Boardwalk and Vaudeville and the silent movies. The event featured jazz music. The hallway looked like an old movie theater with a "hotel lobby area" of wicker furniture. The opposite hall had a boardwalk theme with treats, cotton candy, popcorn and smoothies.
Tables featured black table clothes with white linens, boas, pearl necklaces and coins. Name cards featured feathers or bolder hats.
The dessert room was decorated as a silent movie house. Students took photos with cutouts of a man or woman in swimming suits.
Advisor Jill Rhoad took over prom planning this year following the retirement of Rich Robbin in 2007.
The school was open at 4:30 pm for public viewing. Doors closed at 6:30 pm. Students began to arrive at 7 pm.
