Fourth Annual Healthy
Ohio Fitness Walk

Mark your calendars! Walk a mile in Ohio’s fourth statewide “Healthy Ohio Fitness Walk” scheduled for May 21, 2008 at noon.

Healthy Ohio and the Lorain County General Health District challenge you to get active and participate. The walk is sponsored by Healthy Ohio in conjunction with National Employee Health and Fitness Day. All citizens are encouraged to sign up and walk on that day to help Healthy Ohio reach its goal of 100,000 Ohioans walking at least one mile. If you are unable to walk that day, you can register your miles any time between May 18 and May 24.

No matter where you work or live, there are plenty of convenient areas to walk. This includes community parks, company premises, schools, downtown areas, neighborhoods, parking lots, shopping malls, stairs or anywhere else!

The ultimate goal is to promote physical activity and educate all Ohioans about the importance of regular physical activity in improving overall health and wellness.

There are alarming statistics concerning sedentary lifestyles and obesity, not only in Ohio, but nationwide. Walking is the one exercise that is completely aerobic. It helps to condition the heart, large muscle groups and relieve stress.

It will take a collective effort to motivate one hundred thousand Ohioans to walk one mile at noon on May 21st. Every community across the state is encouraged to participate, including schools, local businesses, government agencies, nonprofit organizations and all citizens.
